OCTOBER 22, 2020: The Roosters were one post away from giving the undefeated Blue Devils their first loss last night, but still put a blemish on their perfect record coming out with a 4-4 tie.
The Roosters got on the board first three minutes in thanks to a great pass from Low to Saxton in the slot who put it home for his second of the season. The lead was short lived however as Regan Walker was able to deflect one past Eshelby just a minute later. Play went back and forth for the majority of the first until about the final five minutes of the period when Mooney was able to sneak past the Rooster defence and get on off a nice move on the breakaway to give the Blue Devils the lead. Unick was able to tie things back up just over a minute later after his shot made it through a screen in front to tie it up at two. Less than thirty seconds later, Quiring was able to sneak a rolling puck past Eshelby after he got a piece of it with his blocker. Right as the period was coming to a close, Mooney was able to put home his second of the game off a two-on-one with seven seconds left to make it 4-2 Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils kept the pressure on early in the second, peppering the Roosters with shots, but Eshelby stood tall and kept everything out. From diving across the crease to breaking up plays with his stick, Eshelby did his best to keep the game within reach. At the halfway point of the second, Low got his first career ASHL goal after a nice feed in front of the net to cut the lead to just one. Just a mere three minutes later, Low again scored to tie it up after a bit of a scramble in front of net. With momentum on the Roosters side, Contreras almost got the lead late after his shot with under five minutes to go rang off the post and Regnier couldn't quite get to the puck that Blue Devils goaltender Perkins gave up. With under a minute left Eshelby made a huge breakaway save on Mooney who was looking for the hat trick. The Roosters rushed it up for one last big play, but couldn't get off a good shot before time expired making the final score 4-4.
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS:
- Unick leads the team with 6 goals and 4 assists in five games so far this season.
