NOVEMBER 22, 2020: The Roosters let their guard down and almost lost to the lowly AWD this evening.
The game started off with a quick goal from Lefebvre less than a minute in to give AWD their first ever lead over the Rooster franchise. The lead was short lived as Contreras scored less than a minute later to tie it, and Steffen scored two minutes later to take the lead after Eshelby made a huge pad save on a 2-on-1 opportunity. Thompson made it 3-1 after a nice shot from the point got through a bunch of bodies in front of the net. Lefebvre would capitalize on his next two scoring chances, both of which were breakway's after catching the defence off guard and would tie the game at three heading into the second period.
The second period got off to a hot start for the Roosters after Thompson snuck one past Robinson. The lead was short lived for the Roosters this time as Liam Smith got past the defence and scored on the breakaway. Once again, the Roosters took the lead back on Harrison Hope's first as a Rooster. The play was fairly back and forth until once again, the Roosters gave up a breakaway which Montgrand capitalized on to tie it up at five. Minutes later, Saxton put home a rebound to take the lead back, a lead that would last longer than a few minutes this time. However, with just over three minutes to play, Lefebvre went to make a pass across the slot, but unfortunately Thompson's skate just happened to be what the puck hit and it deflected into the back of the Rooster net past Eshelby. AWD kept the pressure on late and almost took the lead with under a minute left after Montgrand missed a wide open net on a backdoor pass, but luckily the Rooster got out of a sloppy game with a 6-6 tie as the buzzer sounded.
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS:
- Thompson tallied two goals and an assist.
- Saxton added a goal and an assist on the evening.
- Contreras, H. Hope, and Steffen each scored as well.
- Eshelby stopped 16/22 and added an assist in the tie.
Next game is tomorrow night as the Roosters take on AWD again with puck drop at 8:45 PM at Jemini Arena!
