SEPTEMBER 19TH, 2021: The 2021-22 season officially begun in Saskatoon today, however, tomorrow is the season opener for the Saskatoon Roosters. The team is very much looking to avenge their loss back in the championship game a month ago as they take on the Pacers, who have last played in 2019-20.
The Roosters have made many signings for this season and according to team GM and goaltender Brandon Eshelby, they have a good opportunity to make some noise this season:
"Obviously this summer was both great and disappointing. We played our best hockey as a team this summer, and there were some games we won were we definitely were the underdogs. We had a great playoff run despite the loss in the championship game, and the only thing we really have left to do as a team is win it all this season, and I think we got the right guys in place to do so."
Eshelby also talked about the new additions to the roster:
"Teagan and Josh are definitely huge additions to the team offensively. I think both guys are gonna put some pucks in the back of net for us. Even both Jonathan and Kayden will be great to have up there to round out our forward lines and hopefully they can take a bit of the offensive load off of our top guys every night. On the defensive end, having Matt back is great as he's one of the best skaters on the team, and Colby will be another great addition once he's healthy and able to join us."
Eshelby also added his thoughts heading into the first game of the season and taking on the Pacers:
"Oh I'm pumped for the game. I think everyone is itching to get back out there for sure, even if it has only been like a month. That loss last month stings a bit still as we were so close to winning it all. As for the Pacers, I believe these guys are likely gonna be a bit rusty, so we just gotta come out of the gates ready to go and go from there. Maybe have a few pre game beers in the parking lot too just to loosen up a bit."
Game time is set for 9:45pm at Agriplace Arena tomorrow night. Masks are required for all spectators, and if you cannot make the game, the game will be broadcasted live on LiveBarn, or available this week on our YouTube channel.
